“There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.”
You’ve done it! You’ve stuck with it and reached your goal! Let’s assume that your goal weight has been reached. You’ve mastered your kata and the tournament went well, or that your fight landed you a title as a result of a victory. What happens now?
Going back to your old way of life is not an option. Along the road to your personal victories, you made many lifestyle changes that helped you get where you are. You must not forget that you made those changes in order to help you stay fit and productive. Your training should continue after the fight is over because, let’s face it, a big part of you really had fun getting into shape. You now understand what it feels like to be in peak physical condition, and have so much usable energy. Feeling that way all the time will only help you to achieve more during a regular work day.
I see this all the time with students who miss a small portion of class time at my studio. These students, who are regular class attendees with a passion for what they do, miss a week because personal matters arise. While this is a perfectly normal thing to have happen, the first thing they tell me after class was how sore they were, and how much they missed training. That feeling alone should be alone should be reason enough for not going back to your old ways. Don’t forget how important staying in great shape is for your own benefit as well as for the benefit of your loved ones. No person that I know enjoys seeing someone they care about in bad health. This is your body and you’ve only got one chance to use it correctly. Take time every day to pay attention to the greatest gift that you have, and treat yourself to a great training experience. You’ll be glad that you made this commitment to excellence.
Everything we’ve discussed in this process works for a reason. That reason is and always has been to make you a better, stronger version of who you are now. All of us possess the capability to take these steps to the next level based on our different needs. Now, it’s time to return to step one and set another, more difficult goal. Have fun!
